Exciting news!
June 1, 2012
Ok, so I know I’ve disappeared for a while but I’ve been staying busy. I just finalized and secured my spot in artist alley at this year’s G-Fest. For those of you who aren’t familiar with G-Fest, its a convention all about Godzilla!! Awesome right? I can’t believe I didn’t know about it haha! Well anyhow, this means I’m going to be taking a break from the Nordic theme and shift gears back to Kaiju! So in preparation for the con I’ll be printing new editions of The Aurora Storm and Godzilla vs. Gezora as well as finishing older pieces and creating new pieces all together! So keep an eye out for those and if you want to know more about G-Fest and its amazingness check out their site at http://www.g-fan.com/html/gfest_xix/gfest_xix.php until next time, ODIN HAS YOU ALL…..STILL!

Frames and a sketch
April 16, 2012
Yet again I apologize for the delayed post, I’m probably going to change my name to John “slackinonthisblog” Moses haha. Well I’ve had a lot of school work keeping me from posting, gotta love the end of a semester, right? Once all this is over though I will have a lot more time to post work and keep updating everyone. Here I have framed my Transitions series and my two Godzilla screenprints. I entered them into my school’s 6th annual juried art exhibition and luckily got in! So I’m proud to announce that I will be showing The Aurora Storm in the exhibition along with a great number of fellow amazing artists and some of my friends! If you are local to the area be sure to drop by and check it out, the opening will be this Saturday, April 21st, at the Gordon Gallery on Monarch Way. The opening recession is from 7pm to 9pm. Other then that I was determined to better my abilities in drawing faces or portraits so I started on of Ian McKellen as Gandalf. I’ve managed to impress myself with this one though haha, I always avoid drawing faces. Hope you all enjoy!
The Transitions
April 5, 2012
Whatssssss uppppppp. Alright, so you’re probably thinking, “damn son, this is way past the weekend” and you’re totally right. BUT I may or may not have forgot about some papers I had to write…. ok yeah I did, so needless to say I didn’t get it done this weekend like I had hoped haha.Well I got it all printed now and I’ll be editioning them all tomorrow. I’m pretty pleased with the results but lot of detail in the face of The Descent but I expected that because when I drew it I was zoomed in super far. I still think it looks cool though and hopefully you all do too. I’ll make a post soon (for realzies this time) of some doodles/sketches I’ve been doing in the meantime while I finish up The Death of Odin.
Ohhhh snap! It’s an update!
March 29, 2012
What’s up everyone, it’s been a while hasn’t it? Ha, sorry for the long delay but things have been busy as you can imagine. I’ve finished the Transitions series and will begin screenprinting The Descent and The Ascension this weekend. So keep an eye out for another post this weekend with photos of that. Down below here I have included the jpgs of The Descent and The Ascension along with another picture containing all three transitions. If I were to hang these pieces it would probably be something like that. Ok, so moving on from that I’ve completed the Yggdrasil painting but upon having critique today I got a really cool comment about how it looks like there is possibly the face of Odin in it, the bright stars on the right would be his good eye, the tree makes up the bridge of the nose, and the earth is kinda like his mouth with Niflheim inside it. So that seemed like a really beast idea so I think I’m gonna try to subtly add a ghostly face of Odin kinda as if he exists in the cosmos themselves. The last two pictures there are the very beginnings of The Death of Odin and The Death of Thor. I’m still messing around with poses and such but this gives you guys some sort of idea of where I’m possibly heading. For these two paintings though I’m going to try a new approach and complete them in black and white first before adding color. By doing this I think I’ll be able to focus more on my values instead of “oh shit what color do I use here” which seems to be something I worry about a lot haha. Well that’s all for now but keep an eye out for another update this weekend!
Spring break is here
March 8, 2012
Sorry for keeping you all in the dark for a while! I’m on spring break right now and went to New York City with some artist friends for the first few days. I finally got a chance to go to the Metropolitan and see some amazing stuff, I swear I spent about 2 hours JUST looking around the armor/sword room haha. So all in all it was a great trip and I got to take some sweet reference photos for armor and weapons. Still working on the Yggdrasil and actually getting near completion, I’ll post another pic in a few days. Until then, cheers!
Yggdrasil update…
February 24, 2012
Got a base painting down and cleaned up the sketch a little bit. For a background I really wanted a space setting so I asked a good friend of mine, Khalil Riddick, to give me a tutorial sort on painting space. Khalil is an amazing illustrator and designer, definitely check out his page at http://khalilriddickart.wordpress.com/ and show some love. Also with the progress update, I have a quick sketch I did of Odin. Sorry about the quality though, I took it with my phone. He is in Asgard by his throne Hlidskialf holding the mystical spear Gungnir. I’m thinking of using this image as the introduction to my series which will show the deaths of Odin, Thor, Freya and Loki in Ragnarok. In each swirl coming off of Gungnir I would morph in the pictures from the series. Just an idea though, I’m not sure where I’ll go with it. Stay tuned for another update!

Back to the Norsemen…
February 22, 2012
Alrightyyyy, so here is a sketch I did of the world tree, Yggdrasil. They say that the roots of the tree would run down to the deepest parts of Niflheim and the branches were so high they provided shade to Odin’s hall. On the tallest branch an eagle is perched and between his eyes a falcon sits named Vedfolnir who watches all the realms. Opposite of that in Niflheim, a dragon named Nidhug gnaws on the roots of the tree trying to kill it, thus beginning Ragnarok. Now between the eagle and the dragon is a squirrel named Ratatosk who gossips to each other trying to get them to fight. I still need to render these figures in the drawing and will do so near the final stages of painting it. As for the style I am leaning more towards a map or diagram much like the theological paintings of the Renaissance. Hope you enjoy where it’s going so far!
Something different! Psyche, it’s still just figure drawing.
February 19, 2012
Ok last post of figure work for a bit. I feel like these are some of my better ones and are the most complete.
