Back to the Norsemen…

February 22, 2012

Alrightyyyy, so here is a sketch I did of the world tree, Yggdrasil. They say that the roots of the tree would run down to the deepest parts of Niflheim and the branches were so high they provided shade to Odin’s hall. On the tallest branch an eagle is perched and between his eyes a falcon sits named Vedfolnir who watches all the realms. Opposite of that in Niflheim, a dragon named Nidhug gnaws on the roots of the tree trying to kill it, thus beginning Ragnarok. Now between the eagle and the dragon is a squirrel named Ratatosk who gossips to each other trying to get them to fight. I still need to render these figures in the drawing and will do so near the final stages of painting it. As for the style I am leaning more towards a map or diagram much like the theological paintings of the Renaissance. Hope you enjoy where it’s going so far!

Ok last post of figure work for a bit. I feel like these are some of my better ones and are the most complete.

More practice…

February 18, 2012

Just some more figure drawings done in class. I can’t remember how long these poses were but they range from 15 minutes to 45 minutes. Stay tuned, more still to come…

More figure drawing!

Figure drawing is hard…

February 16, 2012

These are a bunch of drawings I did on my tablet in figure drawing class. Most of them range from 15 min drawings to 30 min drawings. As you can probably tell I tried experimenting with my approach to rendering a figure but I can’t say for sure I’ve found one I really like yet. Tips and all that jazz are always appreciated!

Some more sketches…

February 11, 2012

Ok, so anyone ever see the movie Drive? That scene in the elevator was a brutal noodle so I had to sketch something real quick, I may or may not take it further and paint it. If you haven’t seen it yet go check it out. Other then that I have a sketch of a painting I’m working on and I’m still trying to make some compositional decisions but its basically a female figure overlooking a colossal tree on a floating island, possibly the Yggdrasil? I started this on a 20×60 canvas with oil paints but can’t work on it for too long at a time because apparently I’m allergic to something in the oil paints (insert sad face) so instead I’m going to try and do it digitally. One day I hope to finish the real painting though.

Ok so here we have a landscape I roughed out in about 30-40 mins. I eventually got bored with it and drew Finn from Adventure Time snowboarding. The next picture is a study that was also completed in about 30-40 mins. I’m studying Norse mythology right now so I decided to try and get myself familiar with drawing wolves. In the near future I’ll be doing a painting that is set in Ragnarok and will depict the death of Odin. That’s all for now but keep checking back for more!

Yay an update!

February 9, 2012

I know its been a while but I’m trying to get better at this whole blogging thing. These two pictures are collaborations I worked on with my friend Wesley Miller, another digital artist like myself. The first picture is a warrior mouse or something like that riding a Chinese dragon. The second picture is a tribute piece for the video game Ico. Ico is full of wonderful aesthetics and can easily be inspiring, I’m probably going to do a piece inspired by Ico pretty soon here too so keep an eye out for that as well. Til then, cheers!

Screenprinting

Hello everyone! Just making a quick update and uploading some overlays of some recent screenprint work I did. Two of the pieces are part of my Godzilla series I’m putting together titled Monstrous Metaphors. Hope you enjoy them!
